RMH Funkhouser Women's Center
Building a Future
When planning for a future, we think about not only what’s
needed today, but what will be needed for the generations
who follow.
Thanks to a growing community and an excellent reputation
for quality care, the RMH Women’s Center has experienced
significant growth. Its current location has become inefficient
for meeting the health needs of the women in our community.
RMH hopes to not only build a new facility for women’s
health, but to also build a future. The new RMH Funkhouser
Women’s Center, scheduled to open in Spring 2013, will be
the home of quality care and compassion for the women of
our generation and our daughters yet to come.
Our Vision
To build and design a special place for women…where women feel comfortable, welcomed and respected…a place
where they will seek and find comprehensive, compassionate and high quality health care and programs which meet their
specific needs.
RMH Funkhouser Women’s Center
The new RMH Funkhouser Women’s Center will be a freestanding building on the RMH Healthcare campus. It will adequately house the following services:
- Mammography
- RMH Breast Care, practice of breast surgeon Heidi Rafferty, MD
- Breast biopsies and ultrasound
- Genetic testing
- Breast health navigators
- Educational seminars and workshops
- Heart Check, heart disease screening for men and women
- Osteoporosis screenings
- Mid-life care
- Continence (partnership with RMH Urology)
- Chronic disease management
- RMH Image Recovery Center, an appearance enhancement service designed to help patients deal with the scarring, hair loss and other
consequences of disease, injury or treatment.
The new center will also have additional clinical space for another breast surgeon, expanded imaging services, and conference rooms for education
and support groups.
The Campaign
The construction of the RMH Funkhouser Women’s Center is a $6 million project. In addition to the $3.75 million anticipated from the Women for
Generations fundraising campaign, the remainder of the project will be
funded by a capital commitment made by RMH and Sentara.
A generous donation of $2 million has already been made by the Fred O. Funkhouser Charitable Foundation, leaving the Women for Generations campaign with a goal of raising $1.75 million from the community.
How You Can Support the Women for Generations Campaign
The RMH Foundation will soon reach out to the entire community to raise needed funds for the new women’s center. But first, the campaign is approaching key
RMH supporters, such as yourself, for leadership in giving.
Making a gift in memory of a loved one is a wonderful way to honor a person you love as well as helping to care for our future generations of women.
There are two special naming opportunities in the new center: the Breast Care Clinic and the Image Recovery Center. In addition, there are multiple gift recognition areas where a person’s name can be inscribed.
There are several ways you can make your gift to the Women for Generations campaign:
- Cash (and/or pledge over several years)
- Bequest in a will
- Charitable gift annuity (pays income for life)
- Appreciated stock
- Trusts, real estate, life insurance
- Multi-year pledges are encouraged when appropriate.
Your gift to the Women for Generations campaign will help ensure that the RMH Funkhouser Women’s Center is able to care for the women of our community…for generations.
