1) Does my gift to the Foundation make any difference?
Absolutely! One out of every two people in our community uses services at Sentara RMH each year, and virtually everyone who walks through our doors benefits from the generosity of our donors. Your gift improves the care our patients receive by purchasing needed equipment, supporting critical programs, and providing training on the latest advances in treatment.
2) Does my gift support fundraising costs?
No. One hundred percent of any gift the Foundation receives goes toward its intended purpose. For example, if you give $25 to the Cancer Center, the entire $25 is spent on needs at the Cancer Center. As with any organization, there are expenses involved in raising money. But at Sentara RMH, these expenses are included in the regular hospital budget, so no part of any gift is “deducted” for overhead expenses.
3) Who oversees the collection and spending of donated funds?
A 20+ member board of community leaders governs the RMH Foundation. These board members, who serve without compensation, meet regularly to review the Foundation’s activity. This oversight includes how money is being raised and also how it is spent. Board members are elected for a 3-year term of office and can be elected to two terms. You can see a list of our current board members by clicking here.
4) Are the records of the Foundation audited?
Yes, since the RMH Foundation is legally part of Sentara RMH Medical Center, the Foundation’s books are audited as a part of the hospital’s audit. The audit is done annually by an independent accounting firm.
5) Is my gift tax deductible?
As a part of Sentara RMH – a non-profit organization – all gifts to the Foundation are deductible in accordance with IRS regulations.
6) What are the Foundation’s guidelines for proposals for healthy community grant recipients?
To find out more about receiving a grant, please contact the RMH Foundation at 540/689-8545.
