About The RMH Foundation
The RMH Foundation exists solely to support Sentara RMH Medical Center and enhance its mission to improve health and promote wellbeing. Sentara RMH has been able to significantly improve the care patients receive because of gifts from our caring and generous community. One hundred percent of donations directly benefit patients and our community through the purchase of new equipment and support of compassionate programs.
Serving the needs of the community
Since its beginning in 1975, the Foundation has directed millions in donated funds to support a wide variety of needs at the hospital. A 22-member board of community leaders governs the RMH Foundation. Board members, who serve without compensation, meet regularly to review the Foundation’s activity – including how money is raised and how it is spent.
Supporting compassionate programs
One hundred percent of donations to the RMH Foundation directly benefits patients and our community through the purchase of new equipment and support of compassionate programs. Your generous support provides quality, cost-effective healthcare for Harrisonburg, Rockingham County and surrounding communities.
Mr. William Glodomore Leake made a gift through his estate in 1908 leading to the opening of Sentara RMH in 1912. He had a generous philanthropic spirit and a desire to help secure the best in healthcare for our local community. Through his generosity, Mr. Leake set a standard of excellence that has been perpetuated by each and every person, business, and civic organization that so generously supports Sentara RMH
The Case For Extraordinary Care Close To Home
Over the years, philanthropy has helped deliver radiation therapy at the Sentara RMH Hahn Cancer Center. Indeed, thousands in our community have benefited from a unique, highly specialized, highly accurate way to target cancer cells. Providing this service locally helps patients and their families avoid time consuming, expensive and arduous travel complications while ensuring that their continuum of care is uninterrupted. Replacing aging equipment is a reality of providing quality care and in terms of longevity, this type of equipment is considered nearing retirement at about twelve years. A new, state-of-the-art linear accelerator will directly impact patients and their families. It will also indirectly help strengthen the oncology program, retain doctors and nurses, and deliver hope to this generation and the next.
